Questions on Domain issues

1. What is the first thing I need to have a web site?
To have a web site you first need a Domain Name. Your Domain Name is your address on the Web. Just like your home address, people use your phone number to call you on the phone, your Domain Name allows people to find your site on the Web. Most Domain Names end with ".com" (such as AccuPages.com), but other extensions such as ".net" and ".org" are also available. In addition, Domains can be used with your e-mail accounts allowing you to send and receive e-mail with addresses such as "sales@yoursite.com"

2. How does a Web site work?
A Web site is simply a collection of files that reside on a computer (called a web server) connected to the Internet. When someone visits your site, they are actually accessing that computer, and that computer gives the visitor the files they want to see. Web Hosting involves running a web server computer that is always connected to the Internet.

3. What is a Web Host??
Think of a Web Host as the landlord of building. A landlord rents out storefronts to various businesses. Each business decorates and runs their store differently, and doesn't worry about the maintenance of the building. In a similar way a Web Host rents out space on a Web server to various businesses.

4. How much space do I need for my web site?
To have an idea of how much is needed for a web site consider the following: A 12-page web site with 30 images and graphics, several forms and a database will be less than 100 MB of disk storage. Our starter plan (Value plan) offers 500 MB, which is more than enough for most sites. Please review our Web Hosting Plans for further details.

5. How much bandwidth do I need?
Bandwidth translates to how much resources viewing all of your site pages will take. AccuPages provides a 20GB bandwidth in the Value plan-our starter plan. It should be enough for a web site that is not excessive in size (amount of pages) or daily traffic. For your site to use more then 20GB of transfer/bandwidth your site would have to be receiving a large amount of visitors on a daily basis and/or have many pages that are being accessed.
